BYU–Hawaii Freshman Admissions Criteria

  1. Graduate from a 12-year program and earn the Higher Secondary Certificate and achieve an average of at least 50% to be admissible.
  2. Meet the English test requirement.
  3. Ecclesiastical endorsement.
  4. Missionary and community service, work experience, and age may also be used as determining factors in admission.

Grading System

Most secondary schools use A-F, with E the lowest passing grade. A, B, and C would be considered good grades. At the university level, the highest grade is 60%. Grades are awarded as follows:

  • Division I 60% +
  • Division II 45-59.9
  • Division III 33-44.9
  • Fail below 33

Note: A box at the bottom of the transcript will indicate the overall level of the applicant.

BYU–Hawaii and BYU-Pathway Partnership Program

BYU–Hawaii and BYU-Pathway Worldwide announced a new partnership that will expand educational options for international students. Here are the eligibility requirements:

  1. Complete BYU-Pathway’s foundational PathwayConnect curriculum with a minimum 3.0 GPA or higher and/or complete a BYU-Pathway Worldwide certificate and/or associate degree. 
  2. Meet the English test requirement.

The completion of a BYU-Pathway Worldwide program will waive BYU–Hawaii’s high school diploma/secondary education requirements.
